cont… really, all i’m really nervous about is what to expect from the interviewer (what kind of questions should i prepare for?) and what kind of questions should i ask her back to make me sound at least half-way decent? HEEEEELLLLPPP MEEEE! sorry I sound like your best friend here, i just read your whole tumblr and feel like we’re almost the same person haha!
Ha. That was cute and thank you! Always happy to talk to fellow Chicitizens. I’m not too familiar with the young kid crowd but they will probably ask you about your past experiences working with children. It’s always good to bring up any past experience you’ve had, any time you’ve spent volunteering, or observation time in a classroom.
Even if they don’t ask, I would suggest that you give them a game plan on why you’d like the position and where you see yourself going in the future. By listing interests and areas of growth it will let them know you mean business.
If you’re at some fancy little toddler place in the city they will be looking for professionalism and some knowledge in child development theories. I know of a few Montessori based schools that build off of exploration ideas. Google a few theorists before you go in.
I would ask them about a timeframe for hiring and their mission for teaching. Maybe ask something along the lines of “What do you expect your school to teach children that they would not receive outside of the classroom?” or “What kind of behavior system do you follow?”.
Best of luck to you!
