Glad
I miss teaching.
I’m so happy that after next week I will no longer be the substitute maternity teacher. I miss the classroom. I miss teaching. Not that I don’t teach in my classroom now, but it’s just different. I’m looking forward to taking over 2nd grade through the end of the school year. Crossing my fingers for next year.

ClassroomCollective. →
We need more of this in the education tag. ClassroomCollective has tons of ideas for organizing your classroom and activities for your students. I just stumbled across her Tumblr now. Great for beginning teachers or those still completing their field experience.

Halp!
I need to figure out how to host PDFs or how to post my PDF files. I am in the process of creating PDFs of my favorite iPad apps to use in the classroom along with descriptions and suggested grade levels for each. For a temporary tech teacher, I am not so tech savvy right now.

Tighter security for SAT, ACT in wake of cheating.... →
ACT, SAT will now require student to submit a headshot to the company to be printed on their admission ticket. Don’t they watch gossip girl? They would have known this was going on for quite some time… Gosh.

I shouldn't have to feel nervous about this.
Tomorrow, my junior high students will be doing a lesson on bullying. Seeing as the movie Bully comes out the 30th, I will be using the site to familiarize my students with the movie and the controversy surrounding it. I will have them read the blurbs about the students in the movie and they’ll have a few options of projects to share and reflect their feelings about bullying, both in this...

Bribery.
I’m bribing myself. I have 5 applications to fill out tomorrow. If these are finished I will allow myself to go shopping and purchase something completely unnecessary. Deal? Deal.
Apps are the worst. The same thing, over and over and over again.
I’m going to need an energy drink.

Alright, I take it all back.
Saw The Hunger Games last night and I take back what I said. I went in with zero expectations because I did not want my favorite series ruined by some poorly done book-to-video blockbuster. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It was good. No, it was great. It truly was the the best book-to-movie convert I’ve ever seen. I was very apprehensive in the beginning when Katniss and...

Taking over 2nd Grade
I spent yesterday afternoon in the 2nd grade classroom that I will be taking over until the end of the year. This will be my second maternity leave at this school and everything hit me so hard yesterday. Shockingly, I’m not scared, but this strange combination of nervous and excited. Things I learned in my mere two hours spent in the classroom:
At this school, they make their communions...

Boom, devastated!
Finding out that Jennifer Lawrence is dating Nicholas Hoult via JBizzle’s post about About a Boy.
WAY TO BRING DOWN MY MORAL GIRL.
Devastated and by devastated I mean jealous.
Going to see The Hunger Games in an hour. Don’t tell anyone, but maybe I’m a little excited. Just a little.

Adolescence is a temporary condition. Permanent consequences such as prison are...
– Michael Friedman, executive director of the Legal Rights Center, speaking at a conference examining Minnesota’s school-to-prison pipeline (via tcdailyplanet)
Seeing as the junior high students at my school are visiting the prison tomorrow this is fitting. I couldn’t imagine being hauled off...

Apparently
I’m the only one not impressed by these Hunger Games previews. I have no desire to see it, but my boyfriend is dead set on going.
Boo. Casting sucks, capitol design sucks, costume design (I know, I’m sorry in advance) sucks, Josh Hutcherwhatever sucks, Liam Hemsworth is well…sexy, sexy as in he looks like he could have been carved out of marble.
Sorry I’m a little...

iPad Stylus for Little Guys
Next year my school will be implementing iPads into each classroom. From first hand experience I can say that the little ones (pre-K - 1st) have trouble with iPad manipulation. Especially if the app requires the student to trace. Some gross motor skills just aren’t there yet. I came across this awesome idea and blog on Pinterest and figured I’d share.
You can now make larger...
hisnamewasbeanni asked: You're an amazing teacher, who truly cares, and dedicates herself to the cause almost to a fault! You're also one of the bloggers I constantly find myself being inspired by, both professionally and personally, and I just thought that after reading your most recent post I should tell you that. Thanks!

In the past four days I have...
Gone to my student’s who I student taught’s basketball game. (I miss them more than they’ll ever know.)
Worked 13 hours on Tuesday.
Became extremely, extremely ill yesterday and worked through nausea and the flu.
Froze and shivered due to my fever in my 88 degree room. (No air conditioning and it’s been 80s outside.)
Woke up at 3 AM this morning thinking it was 6...

A Side Effect of Your Profession?
I’m interested in your responses to this question or any stories you may have from personal experience. I’ve been thinking about the side effects that come from being in the education field. A few quick examples that come to mind are tattoos, piercings, other forms of expression, being under the constant pressure that a parent, fellow educator, or administrator may see you doing...

Death
To every fitblr or whatever you exercisers call yourselves I’d just like to say that my friends just tried to kill me by taking me on a 10 mile bike ride. I’m not going to be able to walk tomorrow. On a good note, we’re going to the bar now. Hooray.

"Well... I did it at my old school."
I have two students who were given the task to create a biography based newsletter for the final leg of their research project. Luckily, I just so happened to be standing at the printer loading some extra paper when I see these students coming to pick up their copies. (One was a new student and one has an injury that prevents him from typing. I joined them together for those specific reasons.)...
